Calculation of Transmission of Photons
Transmission calculations are calculations in which the reduction of the
intensity of a beam of photons is performed for a "narrow beam geometry", using total
attenuation
coefficients and the well known exponential equation
(Equation 1)
i = I e-μ(a) d,
where
i = the intensity of the transmitted beam,
I = the intensity of the incident beam,
μ(a) = the total attenuation coefficient of the absorber, and
d = the thickness of the absorber.
The photon intensity in transmission calculations is normally defined in
terms of photon flux, i.e., in (number of photons) / cm2.
Transmission calculations are straightforward and accurate. Attenuation
